Designing Landscapes :
With Florida being relatively flat, I have combined several perspectives to create illusions of real space while at the same time creating a new landscape to explore. Collage is also used to take studies of space to create an abstract, focusing on balancing the compilation of perspectives and focal points which create new artificial landscapes. The paintings are a constant wavering of the plein air paintings done from life and collages in which I decide to deemphasize or exaggerate areas of the compositions.
"Landscapes themselves are abstract."
Color, value, and form come together when viewing a landscape and it is recognizing what is what that creates our perspective. While painting I often pay direct attention to all the little details first, from there I do a collage study of the painting. The collage abstracts the details into shapes to get a focus on just how to abstract the landscape. Using both the pre-painting and collage I paint from those studies, sometimes referring to a picture if something is unclear, and explore that space.

"They leave an imprint upon us... their glares of desparation, gasping for air, just to be able to scream"
Sketchbook:
The sketchbook is where the ideas are formed, scibblings of philosophy or spontaneous ideas are explored to become much more than just a coffee-stained page with graphite.
My sketchbooks are as much a tool as they are journals, sometimes writings bring images or images bring forth writings.

BIO
Meet The Artist
David Peter Ramos is a 17 year old painter and a graduating senior from the Pinellas County Center for the Arts in St. Petersburg FL, and is continuing his education in Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD.
David's concerns in art range from emotional abstractions to unusual figurative works (channeling a similar mindset of the Expressionists) to paintings that take painstaking hours to create. Symbols are present in the work as well--interpretation is encouraged.
"Often times when painting, I stop and tell myself to stop thinking so much, sometimes you have to let the painting tell you what it wants to become"
